Happy Halloween, Social Navigators! 🎃

Before you head out for trick-or-treating, here’s what the social platforms were passing out this month.

For starters, Instagram is leaning even further into Reels, LinkedIn renamed a bunch of Campaign Manager stuff, Twitch celebrated a decade of TwitchCon, and a whole lot more.

So sit back, grab a candy bar, and let’s go through the best of the rest.

Facebook 👍

✦ Facebook launched Local Jobs to connect entry-level candidates with opportunities.

A new AI-powered Facebook feature “suggests the best photos and videos from your camera roll and creates fun collages and edits.”

Facebook can now suggest edits or collages based on your photos.

Facebook updated its algorithm to give users more control over which videos they see.

Instagram 📷

Instagram is testing a new Reels-focused user interface and a feature where users can control the content they see. 

Instagram is recognizing top creators with rings. 

IG has an optional new Instagram UI that prioritizes messaging and Reels. 

Users will be able to swipe between tabs.

Text-based AI prompts are coming to Instagram Stories.

Instagram is experimenting with skippable ads and adding watch history for Reels.

LinkedIn 🤝

✦ LinkedIn clarifies that including links in posts doesn’t harm reach.

LinkedIn renamed Campaign Manager elements.

✦ Beginning next month, LinkedIn will be using member data to train AI.

Meta ♾️

✦ Meta announced it will begin using user interactions with its generative AI tools (voice/text) to personalise content feeds and advertising starting December 16th.

Meta to adopt “PG-13 style” content rating system for users under 18, with tighter filters on strong language, risky stunts, and drug references.

Pinterest 📌

Pinterest allows users to block AI-generated content and makes their “AI content labels” more visible.

Reddit 👽

✦ Reddit is sunsetting public chat channels.

✦ Reddit rolled out a new icon library.

Reddit is testing a new community moderation experience for new and emerging subreddits.

Snapchat 👻

Snap celebrates 10 years of Lenses, noting that 400K+ developers have created more than 4M Lenses.

✦ Snap expanded Lens Creator Rewards with a new “Lens+ Payouts” program where creators earn money based on engagement.

Snapchat introduced “Snap OS 2.0” in preparation for the public launch of next-gen Spectacles in 2026.

Threads 🧵

Threads reached 150M daily active users.

✦ Threads announced ghost posts, which are threads that disappear in 24 hours.

Threads is testing a new feature called Communities, which Meta describes as “casual spaces for you to see and share unique takes on topics like basketball or TV.” 

Threads users can now form group chats of up to 50 people—as long as those users are at least 18 years old.

TikTok

TikTok is increasing the subscription revenue of certain North American creators through new bonus initiatives.

TikTok announced new automation updates for advertisers.

X 🐦

X will divide its Verified Organizations subscription tier into two distinct categories: Premium Business (marked by a gold checkmark) and Premium Organizations (marked by a grey checkmark). 

X is “experimenting with displaying new information on profiles, including which country an account is based, among other details” in order to improve user trust on the platform. 

X is “testing a new link experience” designed to increase the reach of posts that include links.

YouTube 🎥

YouTube will allow creators with lifetime bans to apply for reinstatement. 

✦ YouTube announced an integration with TalkShopLive.

✦ A new “likeness detection” tool will help creators in YouTube’s Partner Program find and request the removal of “content where your face may have been altered or generated by AI.” 

YouTube showed off a new timer that puts a hard stop on Shorts activity after a fixed period of time.

Others 📝

Mastadon is introducing new “Packs” to help users stock their feeds with content from specific types of accounts (i.e. “journalists”).

Bluesky announces patent non-aggression pledge to encourage developers.

Twitch held its 10th annual TwitchCon.

Sora (by OpenAI) announced an imminent Android version, pet-cameo AI video feature, and enhanced editing tools.
